For those wondering how dark the Harry Potter series gets, the second film "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" ups the ante over the first film. Now available in 4K from WARNER BROS, Harry's second year at Hogwarts gets troubling right away as someone has opened the chamber of secrets! Harry's dealing with voices in his head, bloody messages appearing on walls and...students virtually being turned to stone.
While not a fan of Chris Columbus, this 2nd outing proves to have a much better pace than the first and while still not as good as other director's efforts in the series, at least he doesn't hinder any of the emotional impact within the script.
Virtually any scene-to-scene comparison between this 4K and the previous blu-rays reveals staggering improvement! Sourced from a 4K scan of the original negative along with HDR and color correction, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" boasts a variety of hues that was practically absent in the blu-ray releases. The production design is well complimented in every scene with furniture, sets and more all coming to life in a way that's almost magical to behold! Detail is exquisite and contrast is flawless! Inky blacks make even the darkest scenes look outstanding with detail. A GREAT PRESENTATION!
The new DTS:X mix is a noticeable step up over the already impressive PCM 5.1 and DTS-HD MA 6.1 mixes found on previous blu-ray releases. Check out the Quidditch match for one startling example. While the boys zoom around on broomsticks, the localized, panning and assorted effects offer a balance that's spectacular and brings the audience into the scene in ways the previous versions just couldn't achieve! This is a demonstration quality presentation!
WOW! Grab this for the holidays!
