Sully 4K (Blu-ray)
SRP $29.96 2.39:1 Dolby Atmos WARNER BROS

Clint Eastwood is one of those gambles as a director. Regardless of the material he approaches, he's either going to make an awful film(Flags of Our Fathers) or a pretty good one(Letters From Iwo Jima). Thankfully, "Sully" is one of his rare good ones. Although everyone knows the outcome of near-tragedy, it's due to a well-crafted script, restrained direction and impeccable performances from Hanks and supporting cast members, events following the successful landing on the Hudson are made so compelling to watch as they unfold.

Sure, the script uses continual, brief teasers of flashbacks of the main event throughout the film, before finally showing the brief flight in its entirety, but it doesn't come across as manipulative and "Sully's" finest moments unfold as sort of a mini-courtroom(hearing)drama. It's not a "big" but it sure is entertaining as its 96 minute running time whizzes right by.

WARNER BROS has provided the correct 2.39:1 aspect ratio for this release, although many will undoubtedly wish the IMAX version had been offered for this 4K transfer(and it should've at least been offered as an option, WB!) Sourced from the 4K DI, in scene-to-scene comparisons of the blu-ray(also included) detail is notably improved upon in the 4K. This is no small feat, as the blu-ray looks fantastic! Still, in scene after scene, the 4K provides greater detail and the HDR encoding offers more natural looking color than the standard blu-ray. This is a fantastic looking 4K release!

WARNER BROS has provided a Dolby Atmos mix on both the blu-ray and the 4K release. This is an astounding mix and it's immediately obvious as the film begins that a great deal of care has gone into every aspect of it. It's likely "SULLY" will be nominated for Sound editing and more! Whether the scene calls for the eerie co mputer background noise of a flight simulator, the impact of birds hitting the engines causing failure, or the plane hitting water, this an immersive, intensely high-precision in authenticity, soundmix! This is of demonstration quality and worth utilizing to show off one's sound system!

In addition to the 4K, a blu-ray, and a UHD digital code for VUDU, three featurettes(1080p)totaling close to 1 hour in length are included.
