SRP $26.98 1.85:1(16:9) DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 WARNER BROS

Eddie Murphy’s latest, “THE ADVENTURES OF PLUTO NASH,” is now available on dvd from WARNER BROS.  As harsh as critics were to this film, kids, at least the ones we were watching it with, loved it!  That’s not to say it isn’t bad, because any discerning adult will find this hard to sit through.

What appears to have been a sizeable budget, has been wasted due to a horrible script.  There are numerous guest appearances throughout the film, but there’s no rhyme or reason for them, and even a compelling or attractive actor/actress, can’t make up for bad dialogue and a ho-hum plot!  Seeing such talent as John Cleese, Pam Grier and Alec Baldwin with so little to do really makes one wonder how bad were the scripts these actors turned down for this one!

Set in the future, Pluto Nash must deal with Earthling and alien thugs as well as futuristic weaponry and different, although non-innovative aliens.

WARNER BROS. has released this title with its proper 1.85:1 aspect ratio and 16:9 enhancement.  Considering the futuristic setting, the color scheme is disappointing, often appearing dull.  In spite of a lackluster color design, there’s excellent detail in every scene.  Contrast offers deep blacks and grays.  Fleshtones appear natural throughout.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 surround offers a variety of directional effects, and a fair amount of .1 LFE effects.  The musical score is given prominence throughout the film in all speakers.  1 Dolby surround, this is a fairly good soundtrack.

WARNER BROS has included an “Additional scenes” segment, offering more footage, but none of it is worthwhile, or enhances the film.

A featurette, with “Behind-the-scenes” footage is also included, along with a music video from IMX.
