For three seasons, "ALIAS" has proven to be a terrific, suspenseful, dramatic series about the spy world. Sure, there are continuously running subplots that really demand a lot of the viewer in terms of suspending disbelief, but the individual episodes are well directed, the cast "better than good" and the production design is impressive. While all the previous seasons ended with great cliff-hangers, the returning season has always picked up and bettered the one before. Not the case with "SEASON 4"!
This season asks way too much of devoted fans and things are turned upside down and all around too far. It really feels insulting to the audience. While episodes in previous seasons were still enjoyable by themselves, and it was helpful but not absolutely essential to have full knowledge of the show, anyone could feel lost this season, even die-hard viewers.
Sydney now has a "third" sister and Sloane is now in charge of APO! Did anyone over there realize this was asking too much???
The only saving grace of this season's story arc lies in the season finale, which in keeping with tradition, is fantastic! It's too bad the rest of the season wasn't as good!
BUENA VISTA has preserved the show's correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. Colors are solid. There's incredible detail in almost every scene. The show seems to keep increasing its budget and the production design is dazzling, as are the details presented in this slick transfer.
BUENA VISTA has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. It's extremely aggressive and compliments the terrific theme. There are plenty of panning/surround effects. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
