ANACONDA-SUPERBITS
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has just released "ANACONDA" as a "SUPERBITS" presentation.
Jennifer Lopez and Jon Voight star in this surprisingly effective thriller.
Lopez stars as Terri, the head of a film crew venturing into the South American
jungle to film a documentary about a lost but "discovered" tribe.
As they journey deeper into the jungle, they come upon Voight, a mysterious man
whose boat has been stranded, and bring him along. It's not too long before the
audience, and eventually the crew, realize Voight's up to no good, and after
something that will endanger them all, the giant Anaconda.
Voight, is hilarious in what has to be his most over-the-top performance yet.
Director Luis Llosa creates some eerie images, making this far better than the
average monster-thriller. One particular shot, revealing the just devoured body
of a victim lodged in the snake's body as it glides through the water, is
startling.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the film with its proper 2.35:1 aspect ratio and
16:9 enhancement. The image is startling in its clarity! Everything about this
release is flawless! The colors are so vibrant, they're startling. The high
quality of contrast is more evident here than in most releases. There are a lot
of dark scenes, especially in the jungle, and the blacks and grays are deep.
As with all SUPERBITS titles, there is both a Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 mix
here. Both soundmixes offer aggressive directional and surround effects. There
is deep bass throughout the film and the film's score creates a haunting
atmosphere. The listener will feel transported to the rainforests, no matter
which mix he/she hears, but the DTS version offers better bass control and
clarity.
