The only surprise in "ARE WE DONE YET" is that the Ice Cube's character from the preceding film, "ARE WE DONE YET," Nick, would even consider being step-father to the horrible brats belonging to the beautiful Nia Long. What has happened to films, that kids that were once "off-beat" are now "monsters" and they're supposed to still be likeable? The "premise" of "ARE WE DONE YET?" has Nick, newly married to Suzanne. He's sold his interest in the sports shop he owned, to lay the groundwork for a sports magazine company. With his wife now pregnant with twins, and no room to work at putting together the magazine, he decides to use the advance he's gotten for the publication and...move to the country! What follows is one of the dullest rip-offs of "MR BLANDINGS BUILDS A DREAMHOUSE" so far. Worse, "ARE WE DONE YET" borrows bad gags from virtually every other bad, kid-targeted film, but with even less success. It almost makes one pray for a 5th "HOME ALONE" film!
SONY has provided a 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer with the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio intact. It's a very solid transfer. While the earlier parts taking place in the city fall a little flat, once they move to the country, the transfer looks great. Detail, especially in the exterior shots, is outstanding. Colors are vibrant and the contrast is flawless. "ARE WE DONE YET?" is surprisingly one of the better looking blu-ray releases of the summer.
SONY has provided a PCM 5.1 mix. and a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. There's little discernible difference between the two mixes. While there are plenty of scenes benefiting from surround/discrete effects, this isn't nearly as aggressive as we'd expected a semi-outdoors type comedy to offer. Mixes to the "CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN" films on dvd were feel like "THE MATRIX" in comparison!
Some mediocre featurettes and a totally unnecessary blooper reel are included.
