Having expected “ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE” to become a huge hit, DISNEY began production on what was planned to be a spin-off of the film, “TEAM ATLANTIS.” Unfortunately, the film was less than a hit, theatrically, and after only three episodes of the new series were produced, the entire production was stopped.
These three episodes were given some loose narrative structure to blend them together, and released as the direct-to-video dvd presentation, “ATLANTIS: MILO’S RETURN.” While not nearly as bad as some of DISNEY’S DIRECT-T0-VIDEO releases, there’s nothing unforgettable about it either.
All of the main characters, sans Michael J. Fox, are back, and the animation is better than what’s typically found on current tv fanfare.
BUENA VISTA has presented this release with a 1.66:1 aspect ratio, and 16:9 enhancement. Colors are solid, and the surprising amount of detail, within this tv-targeted release, is complimented in the transfer, with great clarity. Contrast is excellent, with deep blacks and grays.
BUENA VISTA has presented both a DTS and Dolby Digital
5.1 mix for this release. While both mixes are engaging, offering a wide
use of surround and panning effects, the DTS has better bass. Dialogue is always
intelligible and free from distortion.
There are various trailers, as well as a game and deleted scene, also included.
