Well, here's a definite situation where we can recommend the laserdisc over DVD. Yes, there is the subjective picture definition advantage of the DVD format, but the laserdisc image is already excellent! The advantage, at least with this title, in relation to picture quality, isn't that significant. However, the Dolby Digital sound quality "is" superior on laserdisc. The separational effects are much broader and active on laser. This actually appears to be the case with many DVDs. So far, the Dolby Digital(5.1) encoding on DVD rarely achieves the same sound quality as its counterpart on laser. More importantly, while both laser and DVD offer interesting commentary by Director Jay Roach and Mike Myers, deleted scenes and a trailer, the laser offers an exceptionally funny music video that's not available on DVD. The music video is as funny as any of the film's best sequences by itself! There is also a section devoted to storyboards and costume designs that's worthwhile and exclusive to laser, but it's moving due to CLV encoding, so hopefully you own a player with CLV still-frame memory.
