Say what one will, but in spite of Michael Bay’s self-indulgent, bombastic style, his first film, “BAD BOYS,” was great entertainment. Hollywood pairings of television personalities in order to make a saleable film, typically doesn’t work. However, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence compliment each other. The two are police detectives investigating the theft of heroin from their police station, an investigation that has to involve internal corruption. When one of Smith’s girlfriends is murdered, he finds a witness, Tea Leoni(Mrs. David Duchovny) and both cops become somewhat smitten with her.
There are enough laughs, mistaken identities, cleavage, and action, to satisfy most action/comedy fans.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has released this title before, as a regular dvd and “special edition.” But, now it’s a “SUPERBIT!”
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has preserved the film’s 1.85:1 aspect ratio, with 16:9 enhancement. This image here serves as a great example of what “SUPERBIT” is capable of achievieing. In addition to it having none of the minor imperfections of its previous versions, artifacts, etc., the image is sharp enough to impress the most discriminating viewer. Colors are superb, and detail is magnificent. Contrast is even more impressive than before, with incredible detail in dark scenes. Fleshtones appear natural.
As with all “SUPERBITS,” a DTS 5.1 version is included here. It’s noticeably more elaborate and effective than the impressive Dolby Digital 5.1 mix, which has also been included. While some DTS tracks aren’t that much different in quality from their Dolby Digital counterparts, “BAD BOYS” is clearly an exception to this rule, with incredibly more abundant bass control and clarity.
