One of the earlier feature-length animated films from DISNEY, "BAMBI" came out during the early years of WW2(1942) and its story dealing with loss tragic loss, friendship and family regained, was perfect for its time. The magic of the film is attested to the fact that it's still extremely entertaining for young and old alike.

Based on a book of 1928, "BAMBI" tells the tale of a young deer, from its birth, dealing with the tragic killing of its mother, and saving graces of those that befriend the poor little creature.  Its brief running time of just under 70 minutes, leaves viewers wishing for more. But, it's also perfect for younger viewers with a short attention span.

While one of its songs(LOVE IS A SONG)was nominated for an Oscar, none of the music is really memorable. Still, it's never sounded better than it does here with the newly mixed DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 soundtrack. There is a great deal of separation for the front soundstage. Rear effects are virtually non-existent however. BUENA VISTA has also included the film's original mono mix.  Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.

BUENA VISTA has presented the film with its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio.  The image is nothing short of stunning! Every shot offers incredible detail and color. It has never come even close to looking this good before!  It really looks like it was just made yesterday!  While many of the forest scenes, particularly in the beginning, have a dark look to them, the detail that is now visible in comparison to the previous laserdisc version shows how much of a restoration process was involved for this release. BRAVO!!!

BUENA VISTA has provided tons of extras for this release. In addition to a terrific documentary, there are many featurettes, a game and two(very short)deleted scenes.
