Created by the "BROKEN LIZARDS" group responsible for "SUPER TROOPERS" and other mediocre comedies. The "storyline" revolves around two German-American brothers who've gone to Germany to discard their recently deceased grandfather's ashes. While attending Oktoberfest for the first time, they become aware of a secretive competition known as "BEERFEST." While their extended family disapproves, the brothers decide to enter the contest, proving they can out-drink the best of the German drinkers! It's really as silly and mediocre as it sounds.
WARNER BROS. has provided a 1080p/VC-1 transfer with 2.40:1 aspect ratio. Much like the dvd transfer, color quality varies from scene to scene. Sometimes the colors are rich, and other times quite dull. The variation of hues is more noticeable and disturbing in this HD-DVD than on the standard dvd. Detail varies as well. For large portions of the film, the image offers striking depth, only to come to an abrupt halt in other scenes with flat looking dimension.
WARNER BROS has provided a Dolby Digital PLUS 5.1 mix. While not an aggressive mix, there are some fun surround moments and the front soundstage takes frequent advantage of discrete effects. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
The same extras from the dvd have been carried over, including deleted scenes, commentary and more.
