COLUMBIA TRISTAR has already released two "Best
of the Muppet Show" dvds, and they're continuing with "BEST OF THE MUPPET SHOW:
HARRY BELAAFONTE, LINDA RONSTADT, JOHN DENVER." Kermit, Ms. Piggy and the
rest are all here, and of course, the show's writing is clever, and in spite of
the show's age, the humor isn't dated.
"HARRY BELAFONTE" offers the wonderful song, "TURN THE WORLD AROUND" as well as
the song sure to have children singing along, "DAY-O." In a great sketch,
Harry goes head-to-head on the drums with "Animal."
"LINDA RONSTADT" offers a chance to see Ms. Ronstadt at her best, vying for the affection of Kermit against Miss Piggy. This gag runs through the show's duration and never gets old. The music selections are all great.
"JOHN DENVER" offers those unfamiliar with Denver, the chance to get to like him. He comes across as a likeable guy in every scene, just like the muppets, and it's clear he feels right at home with them. The songs which he contributes here are entertaining, and adults will enjoy it as much as the kids.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has preserved the show's 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The image is sharp, even though there's some grain present. The colors are rich and flawless. Fleshtones appear natural.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented a Dolby Digital
Stereo mix for this release. Considering the show's age, fidelity is
impressive. The musical numbers are well complimented here. Dialogue is always
intelligible and free from distortion.
