"BLAZING SADDLES" is not just Mel Brook's best film, it's arguably the best comedy of the '70s as well.  Unlike many of Brooks's films, wherein tons of jokes are thrown out with the idea that something will stick and inevitably does, every joke in "BLAZING SADDLES" works!!!  It could never have been made in the politically correct environment of today, but while the "N" word is used frequently, it's actually effective in making fun of racism in all its forms. For once, Brooks has actually succeeded in making a great comedy that's also offering a great social commentary behind many of the jokes.

The cast is terrific and while never a big fan of the Carol Burnett show, Harvey Korman gives a performance that demonstrates how gifted an actor he really is! Even Alex Karras is great here!!!

This is a terrific HIGH DEF transfer!!! The cinemascope 2.35:1 ratio is astonishing here! What a great looking comedy! The level of detail in  a film more than 30 years old is amazing in 1080i! I can't wait to see what it looks like when the 1080p players are available!!!  Colors are rich and the contrast levels are absolutely flawless!!! This reviewer couldn't distinguish the quality here from that of the HD-DVD presentation. Both are magnificent!!!

WARNER BROS. has provided a DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 mix. While the DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS 5.1 mix offered on the HD-DVD provided slightly better fidelity, it's hardly discernible.  This BLU-RAY mix is engaging and surrounds are effectively used throughout. The score is also quite memorable and adds to making this spoof feel like an epic. Dialogue is perfectly balanced in every scenes.

All of the great extras from the 30th Anniversary dvd are here as well!!!!
