SRP $24.95 1.85:1(16:9) STEREO COLUMBIA TRISTAR

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has released “BLOODHOUNDS OF BROADWAY.”  Adapted
from the short stories of Damon Runyon, the film takes place on New
Years Eve, 1928. A variety of characters wrestle with their zany
situations. Rutger Hauer is terrific as a mob boss, trying to find
refuge after being stabbed, but being refused at the homes of
whichever mistress he goes to! Madonna is at her worst here, playing
a flapper falling in love with Randy Quaid, a down-on-his-luck sap,
trying to get out of a deal he’s made to sell his body for a medical
experiment.  Madonna’s not just “bad” here, she’s really bad. Her
performance here makes the entire film, “SHANGHAI SURPRISE,” look
great! Inevitably, while there are a few potentially intriguing
stories taking place, none of them add up to much and it’s not worth
recommending, except for the biggest Rutger Hauer fan.

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has preserved the film’s 1.85:1 aspect ratio, with
16:9 enhancement.  The image varies from black&white to color, and
it’s impressive. There is fine detail and colors are solid.
Fleshtones appear natural.

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has provided a mix that’s confusing. It offers no
discernible separation, and dialogue is hard to hear in spots. Not a
particularly old film(1989), there’s little explanation for these
flaws.

Several trailers are included.
