One of the most surprisingly entertaining family films of the past year, "BRIDGE TO TERIBITHIA" is now available on blu-ray and dvd.  While this reviewer admits to having expected the worst, based upon posters and so-so trailers, "BRIDGE TO TERIBITHIA" is surprisingly fresh and even memorable.  It's a film built around youngsters without ever seeming patronizing.  The two main characters, Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke, retreat from the frustrations of daily life into the woods, where the imaginary world of Teribithia exists. There are more than a few dynamic feats that have to be accomplished, but the story focuses on reality and the maturing process that necessarily diminishes the beauty of youth and innocence.

BUENA VISTA provides a 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer with 1.85:1 aspect ratio for the blu-ray and a 1.85:1(16:9)enhanced image for the dvd.  The blu-ray demonstrates the huge difference in detail between the format and dvd.  While colors more noticeably veer towards oversaturation on blu-ray, detail is improved by leaps and bounds in the high-def format!  The image is well polished in both formats, however contrast and depth is staggering on the blu-ray when compared. Unfortunately, over-saturation prevents the blu-ray from ranking up there with the best blu-ray releases.

BUENA VISTA has provided a PCM 5.1 mix for blu-ray and Dolby Digital 5.1 mix for the dvd.  The mix compliments the different atmospheres of reality and fantasy, at times immersing the audience into a world of aggressive, creative effects, and at other times, providing a more restrained environment, with notable ambient effects.  The blu-ray mix offers better overall clarity and bass. However, the dvd holds its own in surround capabilities next to the best of what's out there. Bass isn't as effective, however the dynamic range is consistently impressive in comparison to many dvds provided this year.

Extras included featurettes, two (too technical)commentaries, and a music video.
