While this reviewer still considers "Bulworth" to be too heavy-handed with
its political leanings, "young robbers really just need someone to buy them
ice-cream?", it's more entertaining on DVD than in theaters. To begin with, its
indictment of the media and sound bytes, is more suitable for a tv screen. Any high
quality home theater system will bring out the inherent qualities of this dvd transfer.
The picture is sharp, so sharp that the numerous sequences taking place in dark,
and we mean "dark" bars, and other low-lit environments have great definition
and detail. The dolby digital 5.1 sound has its share of directional effects, but
its really within the musical selection, that the sound quality shines.
"EVER AFTER" makes for a thoroughly entertaining viewing experience.
This intelligent retelling of the Cinderella tale is engaging and innovative,
managing to feel familiar and yet, still surprise the audience. One could hardly
expect the high quality found here, based on writer/director Andy Tennant's previous
effort, "Fools Rush In", but Ever After succeeds in every imaginable way.
While it has a mature message, it's suitable for the entire family.
While we wish this would've been anamorphically enhanced for our 16:9 widescreen
television, the picture still looks terrific, with vibrant colors, excellent fleshtones,
and great contrast. The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, while not overly active, still
provides some fine atmospheric moments with full directional effects.
