THE CANDIDATE

This political satire is dated at times, but this has nothing to due with it's theme, the packaging of a political candidate. The actors, an intelligent, Academy Award-winning script, and competent direction help make this film pleasing to watch and just as relevent as it was 25 years ago. While Redford is terrific, Peter Boyle is unforgettable. The DVD offers an improvement in sharpness over the previously available laser disc release, but it's a shame, it's not offered with a letterbox option. The monaural soundrack offers no difference in quality over laser disc. A theatrical trailer is included.
