An important film for many reasons, "CARNAL KNOWLEDGE" has finally been released on dvd from MGM.  While we're disappointed it didn't receive audio commentary from director Mike Nichols, it's a wonderful looking presentation, looking far superior to even the Criterion laserdisc edition.  The film stars Art Garfunkel, Ann-Margret, and Jack Nicholson in this comedic/dramatic look at sex and relationships.   While it became the center of controversy due to redneck claims of obscenity, it deals with sex in a mature, intelligent manner, relating its usage in terms of power more than anything else.  Within the inner production notes, MGM has supplied more details, including information regarding Judge Renquist's reasoning regarding the supreme court decision and the film.

The transfer is excellent!  The film has a really polished, slick look to it, something missing on laserdisc.  The colors while subdued at times, are always correct, and contrast is perfect.  The mono sound is fine, but unremarkable.
