Looking at some of the lineup from ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT, regarding their horror films, one might not think they'd be great for family film releases. Well, guess again!  "THE CAT FROM OUTER SPACE" is a wonderful and entertaining film for the entire family.  When an alien cat, otherwise known as "Jake" crashes on earth, he enlists the aid of oddball scientist Dr. Frank Wilson(Ken Berry) to help him fix his space craft to meet up with the mother ship, due to arrive shortly.  Unfortunately, the two have an even bigger obstacle to overcome when they realize the ship needs "Gold" to be rebuilt correctly, and they need to raise a substantial amount of funds, quickly!  Of course, the race against time becomes paramount when the army led by a general played by Harry Morgan, is determined to find the alien.  Kids will love this film, but then, so will the whole family! 

An even bigger dilemma occurs when "Jake" becomes attracted to a female cat, "LUCY BELLE" owned by the doctor's romantic interest, Sandy Duncan.  Throw into the cast such actors as Roddy McDowall and even McLean Stevenson, and it's a must-have for any collection.

ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT has provided the correct 1.66:1 aspect ratio for this release.  Even without 16:9 enhancement, the colors are rich.  There's great definition to each scene, and even with some artifacting, the image is generally pleasing.  Contrast is good, with deep blacks and grays.

ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT has provided a Monaural mix for this release.  It has limited fidelity, but dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.    

This is really a fine film, and we can't recommend it highly enough for an addition to any dvd collection.
