Keanu Reeves turned down a lot of money for "SPEED 2", but agreed to participate in "CHAIN REACTION"! Just when one thought maybe he had some integrity for turning down what was to be one of the worse sequels of all time, he chose to make something ad dull as "CHAIN REACTION"? While "UNDER SIEGE" was surprisingly entertaining, director Andrew Davis, has received far too much praise for over-blown, crap like "THE FUGITIVE"! But, as bad as that one was and that god-awful film he directed with Andy Garcia, "CHAIN REACTION" is far worse!!! WOW!!!
Keanue Reeves stars as a University student involved in creating an alternative energy source. However, some villainous corporate team wants the invention for themselves, blows up the lab, kills the scientific director and frames Reeves. Of course, it's up to Reeves to prove his innocence, protect the device from the bad guys, and potentially save the world. Sounds like a lot of things happening, but the film moves at a snail's pace from beginning to end! The film's only 103 minutes but it feels longer than "REDS" did!
FOX has provided a 1080/MPEG-2 transfer with the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Surprisingly, "CHAIN REACTION" is one of the better looking BLU-RAY releases to come from FOX so far. Colors are well balanced, detail is excellent in scene after scene. Some of the CGI-effects scenes appear too soft, but it's an impressive image. Contrast is also impressive. BRAVO!
FOX has provided a DTS HD Lossless 5.1 mix. It's a great mix! To begin with, when compared to the previously available DTS laserdisc, dialogue is noticeably better here! Effects and dialogue/music balance were problematic in the previous dvd version within select scenes. However, the BLU-RAY presentation has fixed these up and the aggressive latter half of the film, is filled with discrete, well balanced effects.
The film's theatrical trailer in 1080p, is presented.
