With a title like "CHICKEN LITTLE", one expects it to be for kids, but many animated films of late have been successfully targeted for children and adults alike. Take in mind, almost any PIXAR film. However, while youngsters (11 and under) certainly enjoy "CHICKEN LITTLE", most adults will find it tiresome. The main character has been ridiculed after calling a false alarm, mistaking an acorn for the sky falling. But, when he catches wind of a true alien invasion coming, no one wants to believe him. There are some visually arresting moments in the film, however, it's disappointing that the script isn't clever enough to keep adult fans of animation invested as well.
BUENA VISTA has provided the correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio with a 1080p/MPEG-4 transfer. It looks terrific! Being a direct-to-digital conversion, colors and detail is as solid as one expects. Unfortunately, the brightness to some scenes actually diminishes its ability to provide pop off the screen moments. Much of the animation appears flat. Colorful, but "still" flat. Overall, the image is impressive and it's much richer than the standard dvd.
BUENA VISTA has provided a PCM 5.1 mix that dazzles throughout. There's hardly a minute wherein the surrounds aren't kicking in with great impact. Discrete and panning effects add to the film's magical atmosphere and will engage youngsters even more. There are some great bass effects as well. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
The worthwhile features from the dvd have been carried over along with a great commentary and more additional scenes. Unfortunately, none are presented in 1080 format.
