"CHRISTMAS DO-OVER" is basically a rehash of "Christmas Carol," "SCROOGED," and "GROUNDHOG DAY." Jay Mohr stars as "Kevin" a seemingly lousy father and ex-husband. With the "GROUNDHOG DAY" twist, Kevin gets the advantage of redoing his "Christmas" many times, in the efforts to re-establish himself as the "great" ex-husband and father he never was. Mohr's not bad, but this script is! There's just nothing original or unpredictable about it. Worse, even though this originally aired on the ABC Family Channel, it's pretty crude in a few instances. Sure, kids see a lot of potty humor on tv these days, but it just feels annoyingly unnecessary here.
Children unfamiliar with "GROUNDHOG DAY" and "SCROOGED" will probably enjoy this film, as the youngsters we watched with did.
SONY has provided a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. It's actually an impressive transfer, with rich, bright colors throughout, and very pleasing to the eye. Contrast is great, and darker scenes offer excellent detail.
SONY has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. While not an aggressive mix, the front soundstage is active throughout and it's an engaging atmosphere. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
