"Clockwatchers" is an unusual film on many levels.  Director/writer Jill Sprecher has created an engaging world on a modest budget and the acting, especially from Lisa Kudrow, is outstanding.  The story follows four office temps in a surreal-style with innovative camera angles, that look terrific in this sharp transfer.  While these girls struggle for identity and economic stability in an unstable, unfriendly office environment, we can't help but become empathic with them.  The 1.85:1 framing maintains the impressive compositions that persist throughout the film.  The Dolby Surround sound offers some impressive directional effects.

Director Stuart Gillard's "The Escape" manages to achieve the film-noir style it aspires, but unfortunately this transfer appears to have been damaged by the pan&scan process.  The opening credits appear in full 2.35:1 aspect ratio, but the rest of the film appears 1.33:1, making many compositions not only appear cramped, but grainy due to being "blown" up for scale.  The Stereo sound offers few separational effects, but the story is suspenseful and Gillard offers a fast and involving pace from beginning to end.  Brigitte Bako finally has the opportunity to show she "can" act as well as look beautiful.  Patrick Dempsey is surprisingly good in a role that goes completely against the harmless, goofy character audiences typically associate him with.

Robert Downey Jr. gives another outstanding performance in "Two Girls and a Guy".  Director/Writer James(Bugsy)Toback has created a film that explores relationships, sexuality and more in such a frank, honest manner that it received an NC-17 rating.  The pacing is methodical but never "slow" in its 86 minute running time.  The transfer is excellent with perfect fleshtones and contrast.  The 1.85:1 framing is intact and carefully utilized in creating memorable compositions.   The stereo sound offers little in way of separation effects, but the musical soundtrack as well as dialogue, is well balanced and clear.
