SRP $29.99 1.85:1(16:9) DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 BUENA VISTA

Surprisingly more entertaining than its marketing and title
suggested, “CONFESSONS OF A TEENAGE DRAMA QUEEN” is now available on
dvd from BUENA VISTA.  Overpromoted Lindsay Lohan stars as the
energetic teen, emotionally wrought when her mom moves the family
from New York City to the outskirts of New Jersey.  She makes some
good friends, but also a fair share of enemies.  However, when she
finds out that the band she’s enamored with, “SIDARTHUR,” is coming
to town, she devises a plan to make their farewell performance one
that will remain a pivotal moment for her high school. While the film
is largely entertaining as it is, it could’ve been so much better, if
only Director Sara Sugarman attempted to level out the absurdity
behind many scenes.  Sure, she’s trying for a fantasy approach in
many scenes, but the everyday teenage scenes don’t seem very
realistic either.  Lohan is terrific in her role, and brings such
energy to her character, it’s hard not to be taken with her.
BUENA VISTA has tried to capitalize on Lohan’s overexposure with this
release.  In addition to options for either full frame or the
original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement, both offered on
the same disc, we also get two Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes.  Colors are
solid and detail is impressive for the most part. But, due to so much
compression, there’s an abundance of artifacting here! Fleshtones
appear natural.
BUENA VISTA has provided an aggressive 5.1 mix.  Surrounds and
directional, panning effects appear throughout the film.  In spite of
multi-layered effects, dialogue is always intelligible and free from
A commentary with the director, writer and producers is offered as an
option on the widescreen version.  While there are no deep themes
explored here, they offer some entertaining moments, and their
passion for the film is contagious.
A promotional clip for the film, “CONFESSIONS FROM THE SET” is
included.  There is a brief, deleted scene. Fans of Lohan will
appreciate the music video she sings for, “THAT GIRL.”
