CROCODILE HUNTER:Collision Course
Fans of Steve Irwin have to enjoy someone who’s willing to hold venomous snakes in his bare hands, sometimes only inches away from his most private of parts, as well as his intentional encounters with other dangerous animals. These encounters are almost always hair-raising, exasperating, and fun, all at the same time!
In his first(of what we hope are many more to come)feature film, “CROCODILE HUNTER:COLLISION COURSE”, Steve appears with his real-life wife, Terri, in a story about government agents out to retrieve a lost satellite. While agents and suspicious people move about, Steve and Terri attempt to relocate animals which are in some compromising places. Of course, In “Irwin-esque” fashion, part of the thrill watching him attempt to rescue, re-locate, or take these animals back to an Australian zoo, lies in the suspense of whether he’s about to be stung or bitten by these animals. Just one of many scenes involves Steve messing around with a “bird-eating” spider, trying to get it to bare its “fangs!”
While there’s some essence of a “plot”, the agents sent to retrieve the satellite, aren’t featured much, and that element of the film is mostly throw-away. Still, there are some important messages expressed in the film, and overall, it’s highly entertaining.
MGM has preserved the film’s original 2.35:1 aspect ratio of the film with 16:9 enhancement. The image is excellent! As can be expected with a film featuring so many exotic locations, the colors are vibrant throughout! There’s great depth and detail in every scene, and the contrast is nearly flawless, offering terrific discernment between black and gray in night scenes. Fleshtones appear natural.
MGM has included a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. This is an aggressive and entertaining mix! Along with the ambient effects provided via surrounds in almost every scene, there are plenty of directional effects as animals move about, Steve runs in the water after a croc, and many more memorable moments. The dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
MGM has made this a real “Special Edition”, offering pretty much everything “but” a much needed commentary! “Why not?” we ask!
Still, there’s a music video from Baha Men, deleted scenes and much, much more!
