CYBORG

Director Albert Pyun is one of the better B-movie directors of the 80s. Known for low-budget sci-fi/adventure/bimbos in distress&tattered clothing films, "Cyborg" is clearly a step up for him. Although it can't entirely escape from its budget limitations, the film has a semi-polished look to it, the effects are better than average, and the production design is captivating. Van Damme makes an adequate futuristic hero, and his action scenes while not as engaging as in his later films, provide fine entertainment. The DVD transfer looks wonderful in both the pan&scan mode and the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio also provided on this dual layer disc. The production design and use of color appears more polished than in the previously available laserdisc. The stereo sound is a little disappointing, with minimal split directional effects.ne o111111dd11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111
