While studios have begun releasing so many of their older tv series on dvd,
hoping to get more profit from them, there are relatively few that have been
worth collecting.  “DESIGNING WOMEN"” from COLUMBIA TRISTAR is a rare

COLUMBIA TRISTAR appears to be testing the waters with a “BEST OF”release for the series “DESIGNING WOMEN”.  While two of the episodes elected should have been replaced by better ones, this presentation still offers enough flavor of a great series, to make one hopeful the studio will choose to release it in entire season boxed sets.

Dixie Carter stars, but her supporting cast, including Delta Burke, Annie Potts, Jan Hooks and Julia Duffy, truly makes this a terrific ensemble production!

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has preserved the series’ 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The image quality varies from average to better than average, meaning there’s a lot of room for improvement.  Color values are solid, but the detail is limited and there’s an abundance of noise in one episode.

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented a mono mix for this release. Unfortunately,
it’s disappointing. A&E have presented superior sounding mono mixes for many
of their releases of shows from the 60s in comparison to what’s offered
here.  There’s a lot of hiss, and dialogue is distorted enough to be an
annoyance. Still, in spite of all the flaws, the show's good enough to recommend. Let's hope COLUMBIA TRISTAR releases the series in full season boxed sets, with a little more care!
