The Devil Commands (DVD)

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has released a Boris Karloff film that deserves to be in every horror lover’s dvd collection, “DEVIL COMMANDS”.

Karloff stars as Dr. Blair, a decent doctor and loving husband.  When his wife is killed in an accident, he’s startled to find that his latest invention, a machine that can record brain waves, has actually picked up signals coming from his wife.  His desire to speak to her becomes his only reason for being, and he’s determined to do everything he has to, to accomplish this, even murder.  The script is well written, and Edward Dmytryk’s direction is at its usual best.   “DEVIL COMMANDS” is the perfect “mad scientist” type of film to watch with the whole family. It’s actually got some thrills that stand the test of time, and of course, Boris!

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has preserved the film’s original full-frame ratio.  The black&white cinematography is excellent, and the image is decent, considering the film’s age.  The source material is problematic, with grain and scratches throughout, but it still looks better than in the few presentations we’ve previously seen.

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented a mono mix.  While there’s some hiss, dialogue is always clear and intelligible.

Several trailers are included.
