Some classic shorts have been compiled by DISNEY for” DISNEY’S TIMELESS TALES: VOLUME 2”. “THE UGLY DUCKLING” is the best of the shorts offered. When a swan is raised along with ducklings and then kicked out because he can’t fit in. It’s often heart-breaking to watch as we witness the poor animal’s despair, being shunned again and again by the different characters it hopes will play mother for it. In the end, thankfully, the beautiful animal finds happiness and there’s a message youngsters should learn about empathy for the plight of others.
The next best short, “FERDINAND THE BULL” is another great short focusing on a completely likeable and easygoing bull that abhors violence, even upon being forced into a bullfight. It doesn’t end with the same sense of satisfaction as other great cartoons, but it’s highly entertaining.
“THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS” and the mediocre, “THE COUNTRY COUSIN” are also offered.
BUENA VISTA has presented the collection with the proper 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Colors are solid although subdued in spots. It’s a decent transfer, although not nearly as impressive or vibrant as typical DISNEY animated releases have been.
BUENA VISTA has included a MONO mix. Fidelity is decent, as is evident during musical moments with “THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS” cartoon.
