This reviewer had extremely low expectations for "THE DUKES OF HAZZARD", and was surprised to find it marginally entertaining.  Maybe that doesn't sound like a big endorsement, but when expecting it to be awful, and it ending up being better than many current comedies in theaters,....?

Directed from a member of the "BROKEN LIZARD" comedy group, Jay Chandrasekhar, there are some actually side-splitting moments. Unfortunately, these moments come very far apart.

The cast is fine and there's not a real need for dramatic flair here, so Jessica Simpson isn't bad either. Fans of the show will enjoy much of the "inside" homage, if not reverence, given to it.

WARNER BROS. has provided the "UNRATED" version on dvd, adding about three minutes of additional footage, most of it being topless footage.  The image is close to great. Colors are extremely vibrant and detail is outstanding.  Since the players currently available do not offer the full 1080p potential inherent in the disc, it will probably fare better with future players.  The only real setback is due to moire effects that appear from time-to-time.

WARNER BROS has improved upon the dvd with the DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS 5.1 mix offered here.  The standard dvd DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 mix was fairly dry, with limited surround sound and surprisingly average fidelity. The HD-DVD PLUS mix greatly improves upon the fidelity. While it's still not an aggressive mix, fidelity is greatly improved and surrounds do stand out more.

WARNER BROS. has included an "IN MOVIE EXPERIENCE" feature, allowing one to watch the show with pip images while the film's running as an option, filled with tidbits of info and more.

Most of the extras from the standard dvd have been carried over as well.
