“ETERNAL”, released by SONY, is a surprisingly effective horror/thriller inspired by the true exploits of sadist Elizabeth Bathory. Set and filmed in Canada, a policeman investigating the disappearance of his wife becomes the suspect of numerous killings as evidence seems to point against him. While certain that the culprit, a lesbian woman guilty of his wife’s disappearance, he fights all odds while more victims are revealed.
“ETERNAL” has its problems, mostly due to budgeting, but it’s also got some fun moments and while it’s a poor-man’s “BASIC INSTINCT”, it’s still entertaining.
SONY has preserved the film’s 1.78:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. Colors are solid and there’s great detail. Unfortunately, there is excessive grain in darker scenes.
SONY has presented a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. It’s an aggressive mix with numerous directional/panning effects. The music, while not particularly memorable, sounds great here.
