EUROPEAN VACATION
The worst of the “Vacation” films, “EUROPEAN VACATION” has just been released by Warner Bros. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are back as the Griswold parents. This time around, the Griswolds have won a “European Vacation” on a game show. The scenes meant to be funny, aren’t just predictable, they’re predictably bad as well! Since the Griswolds are American and used to driving on the “right” side of the road, guess what happens when Clark goes to England, where they drive on the “left?” This type of humor, or lack of it, permeates the entire film! The scene taking place at Stonehenge is so stupid, it’s actually close to being insulting.
WARNER BROS. has presented the film with its proper 1.85:1 aspect ratio and 16:9 enhancement. The image is generally quite sharp, in spite of some minor grain. Colors are solid, and at times even vibrant. Fleshtones appear natural throughout. Contrast is fine, but blacks and grays are lacking in delineation.
The soundmix is presented in Dolby 1.0 mono sound. The dialogue is intelligible , although there is some minor distortion in a few scenes.
Chevy Chase provides an audio commentary as an option. Only the biggest fans of Chase will be able to bare it. There are numerous lulls and gaps in the commentary, and even when Chase tries to be funny, he fails miserably. He’s just not funny!
A theatrical trailer is included.
