It's truly sad to find that a series like "EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS" has been cancelled, after its best season yet. The series was always better than average for a comedy sitcom, and a masterpiece by the "CW" network standards. But, it took 1 1/2 seasons to really finds its proper tone, and by the 4th and final season, "EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS" became great! Even its third season was close to great, but, this season's premise, Chris is now attending a school where he isn't the only black student! It's 1986 and Chris is finally in High School!
All 22 episodes from this final season are presented over 4 discs, each running about 22 minutes. All of the episodes are good, but some are absolutely fantastic, as is the case with:
"EVERYBODY HATES SNITCHES," wherein Chris has a chance to obtain a big reward after witnessing a crime, but he isn't sure how to collect it without revealing he broke his curfew. Julius is taken with this new celebrity talk-show host known as "Oprah." It's a classic!
"EVERYBODY HATES FAKE IDs" is another episode certain to be considered a classic, years from now. The fourth and final season captures adolescence in a way that the schmaltzy "WONDER YEARS" tried to but couldn't. At least, not realistically enough.
PARAMOUNT has provided the correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio for this dvd set, with 16:9 enhancement. As with previous seasons, colors are generally impressive, though seldom vibrant. Fleshtones appear natural. There is some minor grain popping up occasionally, but it's never intrusive. Minor artifacts occur for a second or two in various episodes.
PARAMOUNT has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. Although most sound is focused on front center channel, as with most comedy mixes, there are some ambient effects and musical sequences, allowing for surrounds to kick in with a pleasant but minor impact. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
PARAMOUNT has provided a variety of extras, including great webisodes, a gag reel and much more! Fans will enjoy the various deleted scenes, and video behind-the scenes looks, offered from the various directors. Even if not having seen the series before, this fourth, final season, stands on its own and is highly recommended!
