With so many horrible "reality" shows on tv, it's refreshing to find one that's not only not bad, but inspiring as well!  "EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" is far better than "not bad", it's actually great!

Host Ty Pennington and his crew are given the challenge to renovate, or in some cases, totally rebuild, a select family's home.  Generally the select family has some kind of heart-tugging hardship and while the family is sent away on a week's vacation, the crew races against time to provide the family with something to see upon return, that will make them and the viewing audience choke up with emotion.  The "race against time", while not entirely phony, isn't really that compelling. What is thoroughly captivating, however, is the sincerity and hard work from every single person involved to show appreciation for the family and their situation by what's set out to be achieved. There's a true sense of accomplishment and pride in what everyone does here, and it will undoubtedly rub off on some viewers.

The only disappointment here, lies in that the "entire" season isn't included. Five episodes from Season one are offered on the first disc. Four episodes from Season one are included on the 2nd disc, along with bonus material. The individual episodes run about 44 minutes, as originally aired on ABC.

BUENA VISTA has provided the 1.33:1 aspect ratio of the television airings.  The colors are rich and the overall image is spectacular.  An extremely solid transfer.

BUENA VISTA has provided a Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo mix. While not overly aggressive, there are some great effects and there's plenty of bass. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.

Some featurettes and bloopers are also included.
