Fans of the original "FOX AND THE HOUND" will be disappointed with the direct-to-dvd sequel, "FOX AND THE HOUND 2". This sequel doesn't have any of the atmosphere of the original, which centered on the strained relationship of two childhood friends, one a fox, the other a hound, as the hound grew up and became trained to hunt foxes. "FOX AND THE HOUND 2" has virtually nothing to do with the original. In this film, Tod introduces Copper to a singing dog act at a visiting carnival and Copper ends up joining the band. The other characters within the band provide some humor, but it's disappointing to find this sequel relying on so many side characters rather than focusing on a real plot with its two main characters. Stranger still, is the film's brief running time, even for direct-to-dvd sequel standards. This one's barely over an hour long!
The kids (9 and younger)who viewed the film with this critic laughed aloud and really enjoyed the film.
BUENA VISTA has provided a 1.78:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. The transfer is terrific! Colors are extremely rich and vibrant in every single scene. There's no grain or artifacts to be found here. It's one of the better looking animated films of 2006.
BUENA VISTA has provided both a DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. While not an aggressive mix, surround provide some fun moments and there's plenty of separation in the front. The DTS mix has the edge over Dolby Digital here with better clarity and bass.
There are some extras here, but only the short(featuring Goofy)will interest kids.
