SRP $49.98 1.33:1 Dolby Digital 5.0 WARNER BROS.

WARNER BROS. has finally released the long awaited 3rd season of "FRIENDS."

While we're partial to Joey as the show's best character, all of them are given great opportunities to shine within the episode contained within this set.  Up until the last two seasons of the show, each previous season somehow managed to get even better than the last, and while the 2nd season was terrific, Season 3 has even more guest stars, and consistently brilliant scripts.  Season 3, in case you've forgotten, introduces us to Phoebe's half-(somewhat crazy)brother, played by Giovanni Ribisi, as well as John Favreau(straight out of "SWINGERS" fame) as Monica's millionaire boyfriend, whom has a love for "Extreme" fighting. Of course, there are so many more great appearances and episodes, so let's just recommend getting this one for the home library collection!

Tom Selleck, Ben Stiller and Billy Crystal, are but a few of the celebrities appearing here.  Season 3 episodes include:  "THE PRINCESS LEIA FANTASY," "NO ONE'S READY," THE JAM," "THE METAPHORICAL TUNNEL," "FRANK Jr.," "THE FLASHBACK," THE RACE CAR BED,"" THE GIANT POKING DEVICE,"" THE FOOTBALL," "RACHEL QUITS," "CHANDLER CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH SISTER,""ALL THE JEALOUSY," "MONICA AND RICHARD ARE FRIENDS," "PHOEBE'S EX-PARTNER,""ROSS AND RACHEL TAKE A BREAK,""THE MORNING AFTER,""THE SKI TRIP,""THE HYPNOSIS TAPE," and THE TINY T-SHIRT."

Not one of the above episodes is less than very good, and a few are outstanding! Our favorite, "CHANDLER CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH SISTER," is a perfect example of how the show has always been able to push the envelope, while always remaining consistent with individual characters' personalities.

WARNER BROS. has retained the show's original 1.33:1 full-frame aspect ratio. Colors are bold and vibrant, and the image is actually sharper than on any of the actual telecasts.  Contrast is excellent, offering incredible detail in even the darkest scenes. Each disc contains 6 episodes, minimizing compression-related defects.  Fleshtones appear natural throughout.

WARNER BROS. has provided a Dolby Digital 5.0 mix, as was the case with the previous seasons' releases.  It's not an aggressive mix, focusing on dialogue rather than effects, but there are some effective surround moments, and the wonderful selections in music are well complimented through all speakers.  Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.

WARNER BROS. has provided three audio commentaries this time!  The producers offer their insight into how the three episodes chosen were developed, and they're all very intelligent and often funny. Each commentary is worth listening to.

"TOUR OF CHANDLER AND JOEY'S BACHELOR PAD," is an interactive tour, and while it's almost too kinetic, there are some worthwhile features within it for fans to enjoy.

"FRIENDS OF FRIENDS" is made up of extremely short segments about the season's guest stars. There are other supplements included, but none are as worthwhile as the tour or commentaries.
