First released 17 years ago, "GHOST" is one of those special films that one can appreciate even more than when it was originally released. Sure, some of the special effects are dated, especially the cloaked demons dragging villains down to hell, etc., but, the heart of the film makes it powerful and well worth adding to one's library.
Patrick Swayze stars as the lead, a recently murdered husband, whose ghost tries to solve his own murder and save his wife(Demi Moore) from pending danger. The Oscar winning script, from the under-rated Bruce Joel Rubin, is frequently brilliant and the direction, acting, music and just about everything make this one a minor classic.
PARAMOUNT has included a running commentary with the director and writer that's well worth the listen. There are also some new featurettes.
PARAMOUNT has provided the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. The image is excellent, offering rich colors and, fine contrast. While the image is too soft in select sequences, none of the artifacts affecting the previous dvd release are visible on this transfer.
PARAMOUNT has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. While not aggressive, there are plenty of fine effects. Surrounds kick in with tremendous impact during key scenes. The front soundstage offers virtually non-stop separation and the music, effects and dialogue are well balanced throughout.
