BUENA VISTA has released "GREY'S ANATOMY: SEASON 4" on blu-ray. One of the great things about the series had always been its consistently good writing and plot surprises. In fact, the first season actually improved with each episode, as did subsequent seasons, until "SEASON 4." Unfortunately, it should be of little surprise why star Katherine Heigl had made some negative comments about the inferior level of writing during the show's 4th season. "SEASON 4" is the only season wherein the writing began to deteriorate. Things became predictably silly, on top of being just predictable. Even the best episode of this season, "FOREVER YOUNG," of which an extended version is featured in this set, doesn't come close to the quality of previous season's weaker episodes!
Hopefully, "SEASON 5" will improve over "SEASON 4" and get the show back on track to where it had always been previously.
BUENA VISTA has provided the correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio for this 1080p/AVC transfer. While there is some softness appearing in various scenes, by and large, the image is excellent. Colors are vibrant and detail is so impressive, that it offers plenty of the kind of jump-off-the-screen type depth one hopes for in high-definition releases. It's notably more detailed than the 1080i high-def network airings, and contrast is better, as well! Blacks are typically inky, allowing for fine detail in darker scenes.
BUENA VISTA has included a PCM 5.1 mix. While there's a fair amount of separation within the front soundstage, surrounds are rarely active, save for a few ambient effects. The balance within the front soundstage isn't as solid as we'd hoped either, with dialogue tending to be overly strong in comparison to music and effects.
Deleted scenes, commentary and cast interviews, have been included as extras.
