Previously available on dvd, MGM has remastered "GUYS AND DOLLS" for this new and improved release. Sinatra and Jean Simmons are enough reason to see the film, but hearing Brando sing "LUCK BE A LADY" is the clincher! It's a great film for many reasons, especially due to Joseph Mankiewicz's skillful direction. The performances are great, and the production design is incredible, even by big musical standards.
MGM has preserved the film's original 2.55:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. Colors are solid and contrast is impressive. The image is quite good and appears better than the previous version, however, it's still not as dazzling as we'd have liked.
MGM has presented options of Dolby Digital 5.1 and the original 3.0 mix. While the sound is fine on both mixes, there's virtually no surround involvement on the 5.1 mix. However, slightly better separation is offered in the 5.1 mix. Dialogue is intelligible and free from distortion on both mixes.
Two featurettes are included, along with a still gallery and a large booklet filled with publicity from the production.
