"GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK" is certainly one of the best films of 2005, let alone the last decade! It deals with one of the more shameful periods in American History when complete scumbags like Joe McCarthy were allowed to run wild with accusations, and by them alone, destroy people's lives, all while the President of the United States, sat on the sidelines, doing nothing to stop him.  It took brave newsmen, and an army lawyer to bring this horror to an end, and this film, masterfully crafted, captures this not just in content, but in its impeccable detail for the period. Every moment, nuance, and sound feels perfectly composed. A GREAT FILM!

WARNER BROS. has already released this film on BLU-RAY, and it was quite possibly the best "BLU-RAY" released thus far.  WARNER BROS. has released this title as another one of their HD-DVD AND DVD COMBO FORMAT releases. The HD-DVD is on one side, the standard dvd on the other.

WARNER BROS. has preserved the film's 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The black&white cinematography is beautiful and it looks great here!  While the standard dvd offers a great image, the HD-DVD offers slightly better detail and deeper blacks and grays.  It's really dazzling to observe black & white imagery looking so polished. It really makes film lovers look forward to so many classic older black & white films that can get the HD-DVD treatment.

While the HD-DVD offers DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS 5.1, there's nary a difference between it and the DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 offered on the dvd. Surrounds are barely used at all, and there's minor separation in the front soundstage. But, this dialogue-driven film, sounds great, and the when music is presented, separation comes in handy. Dialogue is always perfectly rendered.
