Lacking the creativity of the first "LOVE BUG" film, "HERBIE FULLY LOADED" borrows from it, literally, as the opening credits mix footage with the original film to explore Herbie's previous career. Unfortunately, now Herbie is in a salvage yard about to be demolished. Herbie's luck changes when Maggie Peyton(Lindsay Lohan)strolls in and picks Herbie out to fix up and make "fully loaded". Her family has a history with NASCAR, and Maggie needs to decide what to do with her future, work for ESPN, or pursue a career as a racecar driver?
Everything about the film is fluff. Herbie's ability to do the magical things that he does, appears to be normal to everyone around him and that makes this film hard to swallow for any adult. But, children do enjoy it. The cast is amiable, and while it's painful to watch Matt Dillon give an over-the-top performance as the bad guy, when he was so incredible in "CRASH", it works for the film on a kid's level, so all is forgiven.
BUENA VISTA has preserved the film's 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. The image is generally solid, however, at times it appears so bright, that colors are washed out!
BUENA VISTA has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. While not extremely aggressive, the surrounds become more active as the story unfolds and the race track atmosphere is well presented. Music and some catchy tunes are well boosted with surrounds as well.
BUENA VISTA has provided a lot of extras here. An audio commentary with the film's director, Angela Robinson is suitable for whatever big fans the film may have, but it's not particularly engaging. There are plenty of bloopers, deleted scenes and featurettes.
Lohan fans may appreciate her music video, "FIRST".
