SRP $38.99 1.33:1 MONO PARAMOUNT

With so many tv series being revisited on dvd, it’s surprising how few there are to be excited about.  “HOGAN’S HEROES” is one to be excited about!  It does feel a little more dated than some shows filmed even earlier, but it has a great sense of nostalgia to it.  The idea of making a sitcom around a POW camp was bold, especially for its time. It never raises moral dilemmas ala “MASH”, but it’s not trying to be anything more than a comedy and that’s what makes it entertaining. Watching Hogan and his gang continuously outsmart the “not very smart” Colonel Klink and Sergeant Schultz never grows tiring, even when the jokes do fall flat at times.

PARAMOUNT has provided a transfer that’s surprisingly slick considering the show’s age. Colors are solid throughout and the image is slick. There’s great detail and the contrast is perfect, especially in the show’s earlier black and white episodes. Fleshtones are natural.

PARAMOUNT has provided the original monaural mix.  It’s unremarkable and that’s not a bad thing. There’s no distortion or hiss.
