Based "loosely" on the great sci-fi novel by Isaac Asimov, "I ROBOT" bares little resemblance to the original story, but it still manages to be provocative at times. Will Smith stars as a detective investigating the death of a scientist, and finds that an apparently open and shut case involving murder by robot, hides much deeper secrets with universal consequences. Assisted by the distracting(in a bad way)Bridget Moynahan, Smith's crusade to find answers, wherever they may lie, turns "I ROBOT" into a gripping, action thriller that never dulls.
Director Alex Proyas has proven his ability to create extraordinary cinematic imagery, and it's achieved over and over here, but with reasonable restraint that's often missing from his other work. FOX has provided a 1080p/AVC MPEG 4 transfer with the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The CGI effects blend perfectly here and scene after scene, with effects imbedded, still have that "pop off the screen" look! Colors are rich throughout and darker scenes are given such deep blacks and grays, that none of the spectacular detail is lost. This is one of the best looking blu-ray releases to come from FOX.
FOX has provided a terrific DTS HD-Lossless Master Audio 5.1 mix. From beginning to end, this one offers aggressive effects. Bulllets, fight scenes and car chases(check out the tunnel race sequence)combine subtle and bombastic effects in a manner and clarity rarely expressed with such fidelity on blu-ray before. It's that great! Regardless of one's like or dislike of the film, the video and audio experience of "I ROBOT" makes this one of the best reference quality blu-ray titles available.
