In "ISLAND IN THE SKY", John Wayne stars as a pilot trying to keep his crew alive after ditching their plane in the frozen tundras, after becoming lost. This tale of survival isn't as inspiring or impressive as what Shackelton accomplished, but the race against time and cold is made suspenseful.
PARAMOUNT has presented the original 1.33:1 full-frame aspect ratio. The black&white cinematography is well complimented here. The blacks/grays are extremely defined throughout. Some minor grain is present in various scenes.
PARAMOUNT has presented a Dolby Digital Mono mix. Fidelity is impressive. There is no background noise and the dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
PARAMOUNT has included some fine extras for this presentation. A commentary with the director's son and others is included. There are several featurettes as well.
