PARAMOUNT has released the short-lived, but generally funny tv sitcom
“LATELINE”. Al Franken is funnier than his material and that’s not a
good thing. As funny as he’s proven himself to be, one hopes for
much more than is accomplished over the 19 episodes that are
presented here. Sure, there are some hilarious episodes, but it’s
not consistent in quality from one episode to the next. Franken has
certainly won many admirers as is evidenced by frequent guest stars,
but even what should be fantastic appearances never hit the high
marks that other satires like “THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW” managed.
There are a few unforgettable moments, with guests like Sen. John
Kerry, Martin Sheen and more, but the series really should have had
many more moments like these and it rarely does!
PARAMOUNT has presented the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio for this
release. The image is generally fine, but never stands out. Colors
are consistent, but never rich. Contrast is fine. Fleshtones appear
PARAMOUNT has provided a Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo mix.	There is no
real sense of separation, although fidelity is never wanting.
Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
