Having heard so much about "LOST", but never to have seen an episode, this reviewer wondered if finally catching it on dvd would be disappointing or live up to all the hype. Well, after being glued to the boxed set from the first episode all the way until the last a little less than 24 hours later, the show's worth all the hype! WOW!
To try describing the plot in any detail would be an injustice as it's far too complex with various episodes devoted to a single character. But, the pilot episode sets up the series nicely. The first episode opens up on a "seemingly" deserted island, after a violent plane crash. It's filled with eerie, intense scenes, engines that still run while separated from the plane and more. Before the pilot episode is over, we're made aware that there's other life on this island as some type of monster violently kills a character.
BUENA VISTA has preserved the show's 1.78:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. Colors are solid and generally vibrant. Contrast is impressive, except in some darker scenes where some detail is compromised.
BUENA VISTA has provided an aggressive Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. The bass effects are more active here than on most film mixes! There is constant 360 degree panning and all speakers compliment a terrific score and atmosphere. Dialogue is always impressive and free from distortion.
BUENA VISTA has gone all out with extras. In addition to deleted scenes, bloopers and a promo for Season Two, we also get five screen commentaries!
