Anyone whom has watched the first season of "LOST" can't help but watch the other seasons, because it's just that great a series, and even with some small stumbles here and there, it always picks itself up fast, typically within one episode, and is back on track as one of the most innovative, consistently gripping series to come along in decades, and certain to stand the test of time. This reviewer, like many, first came across the series on dvd, and then anxiously awaited to jump in on the 2nd season, only to realize it's just too damned hard to watch such a great show "with" frequent commercial breaks, after the pleasure of watching a whole season, almost straight through in a long weekend, without an interruption!!!  So, the power and magic of dvd, honor this great series even more!

Thankfully, BUENA VISTA, has finally chosen to release (at least one of its seasons)on blu-ray, simultaneously with its dvd release.  "LOST: COMPLETE THIRD SEASON" picks up after Hurley has been released by "The Others" to let the survivors heed his warning of trying not to rescue Jack, Sawyer and Kate, caught at the end of Season 2.  As with the previous seasons, the "background" stories behind individual characters, lends great dramatic moments, and certainly helps the viewer from feeling land-locked on the island, as we learn about the past lives, away and before the "island" became their prison.  Always creative, whether the particular storyline has the character flash-"forward" or "backward," there's always a tense, situation of peril at hand, and it really pulls the viewer in, like few shows ever have.

BUENA VISTA has provided the correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio for dvd(16:9 enhanced) and blu-ray.  The production design to this show is wonderful and compliments the exotic location as well as locations of back-stories for characters.  Colors are pushed to the limits, but are never to the point of over-saturation. The dvd offers fantastic contrast as well, with deep blacks and grays. However, there's still no comparison between the great looking dvd and the flawless looking blu-ray!  The dvd looks as great as a dvd can look, but it can't offer the detail that blu-ray resolution can and does on an image like this.  Often, the exotic location images jump off the screen with more realism than any high-def travel show on satellite. Presented in 1080p, everything looks even better than it did in the stunning high-def network airing(1080i).  It's obvious how careful casting was, as no blemish on an actor's face(these actors have great dermatologists!)goes undetected, with precision clarity.

BUENA VISTA has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix for the dvd and PCM 5.1 mix for the blu-ray.  The standard Dolby Digital mix is terrific, with an aggressive soundstage, plenty of bass and creative effects. However, the PCM mix is notably superior. Ambient effects are much more apparent on the blu-ray in scene-to-scene comparisons with the dvd, and the dynamic range is better balanced as well.

There are plenty of featurettes, four commentaries and deleted scenes and bloopers offered on both formats. LET'S HOPE BUENA VISTA RELEASES THE PREVIOUS TWO SEASONS ON BLU-RAY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!
