COLUMBIA TRISTAR has released “THE LOST SKELETON OF
highly enjoyable homage to the sci-fi films of the ‘50s. When
Armstrong, a scientist, discovers a meteor with an element that could
provide a new source of energy for the world, it just happens to
coincide with two aliens needing the same element to repair their
spaceship that just crashed on earth. Complicating things even more,
another scientist discovers “THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA”, which
uses its sinister powers to demand the scientist find the element
needed to bring it back to life!
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has preserved the film’s 1.85:1 aspect ratio, with
16:9 enhancement. Originally filmed in color, then processed to
black & white, it looks flawless! While there are some specks and
glitches, it’s completely intentional in order to compliment an older
looking film. Contrast is perfect, with great detail in darker
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has provided a monaural mix. While this reviewer is
spoiled with 5.1, the mono mix works fine here, more thoroughly
replicating the kind of genre film it pays homage to.
There are plenty of extras, and “all” of them are fun! Q&A from the
“AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE” is provided, and while video and sound are
only mediocre, it’s engaging. Interviews, blooper reels and other
promotional items, all with the kitsch ‘50s atmosphere, are offered.
