PARAMOUNT has released the uneven, but sometimes funny "LOVE AMERICAN STYLE: SEASON ONE, VOLUME 1" on dvd. Making its debut in 1969, "LOVE AMERICAN STYLE" was marketed as being edgy and a little sensually mature in theme, but all of the episodes are standard fare for the time, and aren't any more provocative in theme than a typical "THAT GIRL" episode. But, at least, some episodes are funnier than that other series, and the young actresses featured are typically prettier than Marlo Thomas! Actresses featured among the 12 episodes in this release, include: Tina Louise, Connie Stevens and more! There's also something fun about seeing a very young Harrison Ford as a hippie, a still "not-so-young" Regis Philbin and others.
Some episodes border on being slightly funny, but the laugh tracks so predominant in each episode, hamper the potential free-will that would otherwise be possibly forthcoming from a less scrutinizing viewer.
Each episode offers 2-3 stories. While some grain is present throughout most episodes, colors are solid and even vibrant at times. For a tv show almost 40 years, the image holds up very well.
PARAMOUNT has provided a Dolby Digital 2.0 mix. The fidelity is limited, but there's no sense of distortion and being a dialogue-driven comedy series, the absence of separation and surround effects is hardly noticeable.
