My Dinner With Andre is available  from Fox Lorber in this full frame version.   Wallace Shawn, perhaps best known for his delightful cameo in "The Princess Bride", along with Andre Gregory, wrote the screenplay for this hilarious, insightful story entirely centered around a meeting between two friends in a New York Restaurant.   Director Louis Malle composes some great images in a story, seemingly predisposed to feel stiff, moving the tale along without any lull.

The transfer to this dvd has excessive grain.  Still, this seems to be resulting from the original master, and not due to a poor remastering.  The digital mono sound is unremarkable.

The Return of Martin Guerre marks yet another outstanding performance from Gerard DePardieu.  Made in 1982 and re-made as "Sommersby" with Richard Gere 10 years later, this one's a classic worth owning in any movie fan's dvd collection.   The transfer is sharp, with excellent contrast and clarity.  Fleshtones are consistently accurate, and the 1.66:1 aspect ratio, while not enhanced for 16:9 tvs, still allows for the full subtitles to appear in the proper setting for 16:9 tvs.  The monaural sound is unremarkable.

Director Nagisa Oshima's "In the Realm of the Senses" was extremely controversial during its initial release, particularly for one scene, which involves oral sex.  Based on fact, the film deals with issues, and while dealing on the surface with a love affair, has as much to do with class structure and societal issues.

The transfer looks quite good in terms of color values, although we felt that there was some information that may have been missing in this full frame version.  The dolby digital monaural sound is unremarkable.

Writer/director Erick Rohmer's "Chloe in the Afternoon" is a thoroughly captivating romantic comedy, mature much in the same  way as Truffaut's "Man Who Loved Women".  The plot involves a young professional caught up with his fantasies over virtually every woman he meets or even glimpses.  Things get delightfully unpredictable when the hapilly married man meets and falls in love with "Chloe".

The transfer is extremely sharp with a continuously crisp image and excellent contrast.   The dolby digital mono sound is unremarkable.
